Dull Care

sculpture of a weather valise

Dull Cares – (found object) weathered valise, vacuum power tubes and enamel paint. 2004-2010

The remains of dull care

“Why, Sir, this burden upon my back is more terrible to me than all these things which you have mentioned; nay, methinks I care not what I meet with in the way, if so be I can also meet with deliverance from my burden.” from The Pilgrim’s Progress from This World, to That Which Is to Come (1678) by John Bunyan.

Found leather valise full of preamp and power tubes on a street corner near Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, PA in the summer of 2006. I left the city soon afterward. Dull Care, was moved to Michigan where I left it out in the snow and rain. It was placed in the garage for another year. Then traveled to Southern Ohio and back to Interlochen, Michigan where I was part of the Faculty Exhibition at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Dull Care traveled to Connecticut in 2009 to be finally left behind on a street corner in New London, CT in 2010.
